Oxford Machine Guarding

Machine safeguarding developed around real production.

We design, manufacture and install bespoke guards, controlled access and safety-system interfaces for conveyors, automated machinery and complete production lines.

Our role

Oxford Machine Guarding leads the complete guarding pathway: understand the hazard and task, develop the physical arrangement, define any safety interface, manufacture the package, install it and provide the agreed handover evidence.

Engineering-led delivery

A guard is one part of the safety function.

The machine, person and process meet at the access point. That is why guard geometry, distance, stopping, isolation, reset and foreseeable intervention must be considered together.

Our projects can range from a single replacement panel or drive cover to an integrated conveyor, packaging line or automated cell. We work around installed machinery, new equipment and interfaces between systems from different suppliers.

Practical operation is central to the design. Production, cleaning, changeover, jam clearance, adjustment and maintenance are discussed before guard formats or devices are selected. This helps create a solution that is robust, understandable and less likely to encourage unsafe workarounds.

Oxford Machine Guarding is based in Oxfordshire, supports projects across Great Britain and is part of Oxford Science Group.

Core capabilities

From a clear boundary to a complete installed system.

01

Survey & risk review

Hazards, tasks, access routes, interfaces and current safeguards recorded around the actual machine.

02

Mechanical design

Frames, mesh, sheet, clear panels, infills, tunnels, doors and fixing methods developed for the application.

03

Safety integration

Interlocks, guard locking, reset, restart and the required safe response defined within the agreed scope.

04

Manufacture & supply

Guard components fabricated and prepared for efficient installation around site and shutdown constraints.

05

Installation

Mechanical fit, access, reach, interfaces and agreed control connections completed and reviewed on site.

06

Testing & handover

The installed arrangement and safety functions checked against the agreed project boundary and records.
